Quote from: GameStop Tournament Rules
The onsite GameStop Tournament Director (“GTD”) will present play instructions, any mandatory game play settings, and Game Controller directions during the introduction prior to commencement of each Round.
I wonder why GameStop did this?

Maybe was to prevent lawsuits?

Also, I tried to enter, but my town didn't have the rules yet. I dunno, maybe I'll finally win something. Though, the absence of Captain Falcon from the start maybe make me loose. (He's my alternate, Link is my main.)

I sure would like to enter, but I got College :(

That and I don't have time to drive 30 minutes to my closest Game Stop.

My comp won't let me open the file with the participating stores. Can anyone post it here?

I hear you can't get into these things unless you're 18+ (something about how it's illegal for human being to win things until they can pay taxes, I dunno). I mean, I'm not going to compete (there aren't any tournaments where I live, anyway)--just saying.

Obviously if your state prohibits it then you can't participate.

I'm not going to participate, but I will be attending the midnight launch at one of the two participating stores in my city.

I hate those gotchas. Chances are no state will prohibit it, but it tells me there's no guarantee the contest will be held in a state, and thus no obligation to do so.

I'm not going to participate because 1. I'm not confident that I'm one of the most elite Smash Bros. players around, 2. I don't know if I live anywhere near where one of these contests would be held (too lazy to check), 3. since Smash Brawl has changes to the characters (Sakurai or whoever said so) and I haven't played the game yet AND haven't played with anything except a GameCube controller, I fully expect to play as a newbie were I to get my hands on it, 4. I'd rather focus on getting a Wii and the game rather than playing a tournament and then hoping I'll buy the game.

I just found out via Best Buy's website that they are also holding a Brawl tournament. However, there are only 4 locations, and 2 of the dates have already passed, but there are hefty prizes for more placings!

I'm thinking about going to the midnight launch as either Mario, Luigi, or Shadow Link.

I'm getting my copy at midnight, but I don't plan on entering the tournament. What have I got to lose? Time I could be putting towards unlocking everything, I suppose.

I have no idea when I'll be getting my copy, but I preordered it at GameCrazy an eon-and-a-half ago, so I figure the odds are slightly in my favor to pick it up there (they'd better have it on launch... idiots are always getting it a day late at the least).

They shouldn't be getting it a day late.  Nintendo has already shipped Brawl to US retailers.

I know, but just about every time I go there at launch, they say "not 'till tomorrow", or something to that effect.

Most dates you see on the net are ship dates so it will be a day or so later for most people outside of big cities like LA and NY.  Brawl is a big exception.  It shipped very early compared to its releade date.  Other popular games may ship early, but Brawl is already in many stores/warehouses.

I just called again. They said I need to be 13. That stinks, I turn 13 in 3 months...so I'm really sad about that. I can imagine all the teens including the store owner automatically assuming I stink just because I'm under 13.

I'm not entering any contests, but I'm getting the game and then having a friend over to play it for hours on end.
I always figured "Time to tip the scales" was Wario's everyday motto.
