His Japanese name was Porky, like it is in Brawl, but in Earthbound is was Pokey, so that's the name BirdPerson is using. This is all a result of lolcalization.

I personally hate "Porky" for a variety of reasons, and believe that they should have kept "Pokey" even if it was a translation error to begin with. They swallowed Marsh Badge/Soul Badge in Pokémon, so, why not just accept Pokey?

That wasn't a localization mistake though; it was just a transposition error which even showed up in the Japanese manual.

Dunno, but it the whole "Pokey/Porky" thing has reminded me of smfan's "US version of PMTTYD is the TRUE version" and has annoyed me a little.

This is nothing like that. The EB localization team just took how it was literally pronounced and wrote that in English letters. Implied Rs aren't really the easiest things to realize.
