The only bad thing about the Wii is the VC.
SMB is awful.
The music is too fast, and the picture is flat, even in 4:3.
SMB3 is ok, and Donkey Kong is excellent, when it's in Zoom mode.
Not all VC games are bad, though.
SM64 is perfect in Smart mode. Same for Paper Mario.
So can Nintendo please FIX THE NES VC GAMES!
;(

Sounds more like a problem with your Wii and/or TV and/or perception.

I think it's a mode on some widescreen TVs. If you're watching a 4:3 show, it zooms in to fill the screen. But if it detects motion on one of the edges of the screen, then it will pan over to it.

Yeah, I think I've got those modes on my TV (it took me a few seconds to realize what he was talking about). Alas, it still always cuts a little off on the top/bottom... I think it was made right when big televisions became a "thing", but widescreens weren't widely avalible. Behold, bloated picture on a fat, square screen. But we get HD!

The music is too fast, and the picture is flat, even in 4:3.
Wait, they sped up the music...?

And, if the picture's too flat, I'll gladly loan you my 3-D glasses. I know Mario wasn't red and blue until later games, but we'll work something out.

Is Wiiplayer99 in some obscure European country where they don't use video standards?
That was a joke.

Well, the game will quite naturally look flat. That's how they made games back then. Speaking of which, has anybody stepped into a dentist's office and seen an arcade cabinet with Super Mario Bros. on it? I have, thought it was awesome, but wondered why they couldn't include some more modern games. Maybe it's the pick-up-and-play nature.

I have a feeling I'm familiar with the issue of music being sped up. I've either played ROMs where the music was sped up or maybe I thought SMB DX had it sped up (considering it couldn't frickin' leave the level design alone (or was that Super Mario All-Stars), I'd wonder what else they messed with).

You'd think they could just take the most compatible emulators so far, pay a licensing fee if authors are going to complain about it, then make it work with the Wii. However, the problems you're discussing appear to be with the TV instead of anything inherently wrong with the ROMs.

I've never heard of TVs panning the screen when motion's detected to one side, but I wouldn't like that option. You have to get used to the camera moving while you're moving in Super Mario 64 already, and Smash Bros. Melee/Brawl automatically moves the camera depending on where the characters are, so I don't want any extra movement. But I'm not you, and you're probably more knowledgeable of what widescreen TV users expect than I am, seeing as how I don't have a widescreen TV.

It does sound horrific. I haven't personally experienced it either.

Also, Nintendo wrote their own emulators, dude.
That was a joke.

That's not very nice, Chupperson Weird.

I don't mind, Chupperson Weird, I've heard it a lot when I went to America for a holiday.
My friend Tom lives there and his sister is always going on about me being foreign.
