Have you played MP4 and/or 5? Those games' plots are worse than MP6's. Fo realz, yo.

Yeah, pretty much all of the Mario Parties had crummy plots. Not to mention most of the newer mini-games were just cleverly disguised remakes of older mini-games.

MP4 plot: A huge cube is in the sky and Mario has to get every present. Yawn.

MP5 plot: Dream world (or whatever it's called) is under attack by (you guessed it) Bowser, and it's up to Mario and the gang to stop him so no one has...nightmares? I forgot to be quite honest.

I still think MP6's plot is worse because the sun and the moon in that game are horrendously annoying. If they didn't have those two, MP6 would've had an okay plot. Why? Because then Mario and the gang would just party to freakin' party!
Luigison: Question everything!
Me: Why?

I actually thought Brighton and Twila could've fit into a Paper Mario game or something.

All the plots, for convenience's sake:

MP1: Mario throws a party, but they get into an argument over who's the "Superstar", which I assume means "best character" in non-self aware terms. They decide to go do good deeds by collecting Stars in the worlds beyond the Warp Pipe. Bowser is also there. When you save up 100 Stars, Bowser appears in the village and robs the bank, so you have to go to the final world to get the stars back and repair the Eternal Star. The end of the game reveals that the characters reached an agreement and decided that nobody is better than another.

MP2: The plot is about how "Mario Land" was built by Mario and everyone, but they argued that it should have a different name. Bowser decides to attack the place, so Toad suggests that whoever stops him gets to name the Land. It's later revealed that Mario Land is a theme park and that the plot was an animatronics show. Basically, it's a parody of the first game.

MP3: The Millenium Star, which is born every 1000 years, crash lands in front of Peach's Castle, so they (once again) argue over who gets to keep it, as whoever has it becomes the Superstar of the Universe. They opt to open up a toy chest and play a round of "Mario Party" for it. Then the Millenium Star comes to life and teleports everyone inside the toy chest (which looks a lot like Paper Mario) and tells them that they must beat his challenge to in order to become the Superstar.

The campaign mode has little cutscenes showing each round where you earn a Star Stamp for beating a board. Wario has the Wit stamp, Yoshi has the Kindness stamp, DK has the Strength stamp, Peach has the Love stamp, and Mario has the Courage stamp. Luigi is actually the default character, and if you pick any of the others, he takes their place, thus making him the canonical main character of MP3. Every time you win a round, Bowser always tries to steal your stamp, and fails in the most comically stupid way possible.

Then you beat Daisy for the Beauty stamp (the MS almost declares her winner immediately), and this time Bowser decides to ambush you for the last stamp, the Mischief stamp. Then you find that Waluigi stole it. Bowser is mad at being upstaged, and promptly loses a fist fight against Waluigi. Then you have to beat the final board (which is an island formerly owned by Luigi, now taken over by Waluigi), and eventually challenge the Millenium Star himself in one last mini-game.

When you win, he reveals that he's a fake and runs off, but the real MS turns out to actually be hiding inside Tumble's (the magical die guy) die head and christens you the Superstar of the Universe. The End.

For the record, MP3 is my personal favorite, with MP2 running second.

I always loved that about MP3 seeing as Luigi is always my character of choice. No exceptions.
Fangirling over Luigi since 1999.

Mario Party 3 is also my favorite. The twist ending is a little too simple, and maybe very cliched, but it really got me back then. It was a strange but enjoyable surprise (Well I can't find the words of how it felt). It is something that no other Mario Party has given me. Not that I remember anyway...

I don't care at all about the Mario Party plots because I know they're not important.

Worst: Not counting games that barely have a story, I would say Mario Party. I mean Toad just comes and says "Hey you should beat each other up lol" and they obey!

It's obvious that Toad is the Superstar, otherwise they wouldn't have just obeyed him..

Now, I can't believe people are actually voting SMG as one of the Worst Storylines. You have got to be kidding me! It took the Bowser's kidnapped the princess story and made it into a save the universe (and the princess) story. If any game deserves the worst spot, it's Super Mario Sunshine, becuase that has one of the worst stories to it.. Mario doesn't lose Fludd unless Shadow Mario/Bowser Jr steals it from him on the way into a level (and only specific levels at that!), and that game gave us abominations like Bowser Jr, Petey Pirahna, the Piantas, the ugly Boo redesigns, and.. well, I could go on, but that's a rant for another topic..

Best: Super Mario Galaxy, because we're not just saving the princess or the world: we're saving the entire universe.

Worst: Super Mario Sunshine. Reasons listed above.

Nominee: Original SMB level

Best:  Paper Mario:  TTYD, the storyline was wondeful, so were the characters.

Worst:  Mario Bros.:  You are just kicking little creatures around.

And what exactly is so bad about Bowser Jr., Petey Piranha, and the Piantas? My explanation for people thinking like this is because it's coming from a game that's not the exact same thing as Super Mario 64, which apparently creates some dislike for the game. Super Mario Sunshine, compared to most of the Mario series, has a great storyline. Unlike Super Mario 64, where you just find out that the princess has been captured and go through a castle to collect power stars which somehow save her, the goal of Super Mario Sunshine is to clean up the island and restore the Shine Sprites, the source of light for Isle Delfino. On top of that, Peach gets kidnapped by Bowser Jr., who thinks Peach is his mom, and is brought to Mount Corona where Bowser is.

Now which storyline do you think is more developed and more complex? Super Mario 64 or Super Mario Sunshine?

The Mario series is the best! It has every genre in video games but RTS'! It also has a plumber who does different roles, a princess, and a lot of odd creatures who don't seem to poop!

I'm glad it's not exactly the same is SM64. I knew SM64 like the back of my hand by the time SMS came out.

The story had some good ideas, and it's obvious the writers were trying to work with the story (see the Mecha Bowser battle in Pinna Park), but it just felt a bit.. lacking to me.

And really, I just hate Petey Pirahna, Bowser Jr, and the Piantas.

Petey Pirahna was just a friggin' huge baby pirahna plant that vomited all over the place. He just got in the way. I realise that's what mini-bosses are supposed to do, but still, he was just annoying (his redesign for Brawl was good, though).

Bower Jr is just laziness on Nintendo's part: they just took Bowser's model, shrank it and added a stupid little mask/bib (with angry teeth on it) that he wears all the time now. Why couldn't they have made him into one of the real Koopa Kids instead? I would gladly have accepted Morton Koopa Jr over.. this!

The Piantas are obviously stupid: Water Mario is running all over, messing up the town and scaring away the Shines long before the real Mario ever shows up. Upon landing, they arrest him and give him a very one sided trial (on a side note: where was the Noki defense lawyer anyway??) Even after seeing the two Mario's together, the Pinata's insist on blaming the real Mario for the mess, even though he's cleaning it up. They must be stupid and color bline!

SMS was a good game, but it wasn't a very good Mario game. In fact, the same could be said about many of the games on the GC, about other franchises (Metroid Prime, Zelda: WW..)

In what ways was he "just annoying"? He only appeared twice in the game. All bosses get in the way of your heroes goal.

Yeah Kimimaru...
I think the only problem with mario sunshine was nostalgia. It makes you feel "Da(r)n this isn't Mario 64 2", but when you get over that feeling (Well if you ever do) you will learn that it really is a great game.

It seems this nostalgia problem is affecting all other franchises, too

I don't think that Bowser Junior is copy-paste of Bowser. I am.. it really is? However, the same could be said about the koopa kids. (Oh look lazy nintendo wendy is just a bowser with lipstick, etc.)

The Bower Jr. bib is retarded, but besides the sometimes-insane difficulty (and the small soundtrack), that game was fresh and fun.

Honestly, the Koopa Kids are way less original then Bowser Jr. (However, I do like the Koopa Kids better)
