Interesting post, CW.

Poll time!:

What is your favorite sentence that uses all 26 letters of the alphabet?

The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.
OR
Pack my box with five dozen liquor jugs.

I prefer the "liquor jugs" sentence because it  is shorter. And I heard of it way after the "lazy dog" sentence, so I'm not as bored with it.

I've heard some of those before. Interesting, nonetheless.

Oh, Deezer, I guess my fave would be the fox one--considering that's the only one I've heard and used before. ;)

"No word in the English language rhymes with month, orange, silver, or purple."

Excuse me? Everyone knows that "purple" obviously rhymes with "nurple" and "orange" rhymes, of course, with "door hinge."

And for the poll, the second one's better.

"We Will Surely Avoid Scurvy if We All Eat an Orange."

 Or something along those lines.

And yes, I guess the liquor one is better.

The liquor one is more interesting becuase it uses less letters. So I think I like it better.

I've heard that door hinge thing but that's two words so it doesn't really rhyme... and what the heck is a "nurple?!"
Oh, and I noticed another piece of useless information to go with all that: All those facts are alphabetized.
That was a joke.

FEWER letters.
And it's very close to being alphabetized.  The first few are a bit scrambled...

Hmm... When my dad was in grade school, he was taught that the vowels were A, E, I, O, U, and sometimes Y and W.  Yes, W.
They couldn't give him an example, but they insisted it was true.  And sure enough, there is at leats one word that uses W as a vowel.
Does anybody know of it/any others?

Hmm... after a bit of research, I've found one example in English:

Cwm (a steep-walled semicircular basin in a mountain, sometimes containing a lake; a cirque) and also, crwth (an ancient Celtic musical instrument), both from the Welsh, use w as a vowel--standing for the same sound that "oo" stands for in boom and booth. Crwth is also spelled "crowd."
That was a joke.

I've known about those words for a while. In fact, one of the teams in the fantasy baseball league I'm in is named after crwth.

There IS a word that rhymes with purple:

"You know what? I'm pretty sure that his burp'll be louder than the one before it."

See? Burp'll. A contraction meaning "Burp will".

Congratulations! You have just been blessed by the wisdom of Steve.

It's Doctor Robotnik. I won't stand for that Eggman none-sense.

And yes, I do recall that show. It was "The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog." And those two robots were Scratch and Grounder. Ah, I remember the good 'ol days.

I also remember that one that was on Saturday mornings. It was a bit more serious, and I remember liking its art a bit better than the Adventures cartoon.

"He's the fastest thing alive - he's the fastest thing...aliiiiiiiiiiiiiive!"

It also had a better theme.

Do not resist Eggman. That is "his" name.
