I didn't want to become any more involved in this, as I know I'm just going to make this worse...
"Plus, I have a right to say what I want..."
I have the right to say what I want. You see, Jon, that is a misconception many people have. You live in America, the Bill of Rights grants you freedom of speech. However, when you join a forum, any forum, you agree to abide by their rules.
These rules supercede your Constitutional rights. It's much like when you walk into a Grocery store. There are rules you must follow, such as No Pets, or Having a shirt on or something. Do you understand where I'm going with this, Jon?
"NO FLAMMING", I believe is one such rule you agreed to upon Entering the Forums here. I'm not sure if you know what Flamming is, but needless Slander definitely falls under that category. And so, your freedom of speech means nothing here. You abide by the rules, or you don't post. It's that simple. And so, I ask you, as a fellow member, to follow those rules and to not needlessly flame another member.
"...It seems uncalled for-saying the stuff about Cashcrazed, but that thing he did that takes over your computer is uncalled for to me."
It was uncalled for. However, I believe there was sufficient warnings given prior to your clicking that link.
I understand your frustration with clicking that link, I really do. I'd hardly say it takes over your computer though. You don't necessarily need to restart your computer to get rid of it, it is possible to close it otherwise. Of course, that requires your OS to get near the crashing point, but it does no harm anyway.
EDIT: It seems your requested to know how to get out of it without restarting. I will, of course, tell you what I did.
When you first click on the link, the large window pops up with its tune playing, and Caution Windows popping. After a certain amount of the Caution Windows, it prompts you to set it as your homepage. If you click no, or yes, I assume, the Caution windows continue. When you attempt to close the large window, it multiplies into three or four little windows. Each little window follows the same pattern as the afore mentioned large Screen. When you close those, more windows opened.
Well, with Windows XP, the windows form into a Group. When you attempt to close the Group, they multiply further.
Before I had more than 40 little windows open, I quickly prompted Task Manager to open. (Ctrl + Alt + Delete) From there, I had attempted to End Task my IE windows. That did little good, as they multiplied, and began to slowly, but surely, lead my OS to a crash.
Well, if you know anything about crashes, they tend to close everything you have open, and even can freeze your computer. Fearing that, still having Task Manager Open, I went to The Processes Tab, my last resort. From there, I used the "End Process" button on IEXPLORE.EXE. At first it seemed to do little, however the windows hadn't multiplied either. And so, I attempted it again; similar results. Alas, I tried once more, and low and behold, it looked as though I crashed my computer. Well, all of my programs were still open, aside from Explorer. One can only assume, it was taking a lot of time to close the various windows.
It's by far not a full-proof method, and maybe I had just gotten lucky. However, I hadn't reset my computer in the process, and so, there is some way around it, Jon.
:END EDIT
It doesn't harm your computer, unless you reboot it continually, but even then, you would need to reboot it quite a few times. Also, there is a simple way to change your homepage. Just right click on your IE icon, and then go to properties. You're able to change it, quite quickly, from there.
Jon, my problem is not with your posting this topic. You have every right to be upset, I guess. But, when you do it in a way that is insulting, I find it difficult to warrant your opinion any respect. Had your first post been your second post, then there would be no problem on my side of this.
Also, I would like to see where you acquired such information as to the legality of that Script. I'm quite curious, if you don't mind.
EDIT II: Jon, I'm unsure what the problem with your MSN Messenger is, if you could provide, in a little more detail, what exactly your problem with it is, I'd be glad to offer any help I can.
However, I suggest you write down all of the contacts on your list, as a precaution. Then, uninstall MSN Messenger, and then Re-install it. That will most likely solve your problem.
