PKB, The show you're thinking of, most likely has nothing to do with the Mario Brothers we know and love. Mario was named after mario segali, nintendo of america's landlord(or something). He looks the way he does becuase it was convenient to make him look that way. He had a big nose so people would notice he had a nose and he had overalls so that his arms would be visible.
I believe he was a carpenter in donkey kong (can't remember where I heard/read that, though), and a plumber in Mario bros. Thats why the whole thing takes place in a sewer.
The world would be a much cleaner place if people would eat their own trash.
