Author Topic: Your Definition of the Term 'Nerd'...  (Read 10431 times)

« on: June 17, 2004, 09:28:58 AM »
Before you go on and say that this belongs in the 'General Chat' Forum...

Let me explain...

Most people would consider nerds a group of particular people who knows quite a lot of some specific stuff...

In fact, some nerds will answer you very accurately when ask them about those stuff...

Nerds and geeks are different, geeks tend to know more in general knowledge and science...

Nerds usually go towards artistic and entertainment stuff...

This is where the Super Mario-ism comes in...

What is your defenition of a Super Mario nerd?

Do you believe a Super Mario nerd ought to know everything single detail in every single game? Like the question of: How many blocks in World 1-2 of Super Mario Bro.s will produce coins?

Or do you believe that a Super Mario nerd would know about about the games in general and create theories that help explain the whole system of how the whole story goes...

Like what have you figured about the Mushroom Kingdom after playing Paper Mario?

Would you consider Deezer to be a nerd?

Would you consider yourselves to be nerds?

(Would you consider me as a nerd? :P)

Let's consider what's the deal with all this Super Mario nerdiness...

I am a pure Super Mario lover!!

...and in no point in the future will he ever be abandonded by me!

I will even drawn the best Super Mario comics ever to exist!!

I'd say anyone posting on this Mario fansite message board is a Mario nerd. Deezer is an ultranerd for making it. I am a nerd. You are a nerd. We are all nerds.

That said, a Mario nerd is someone who has played Mario games old and (more importantly) new and knows a lot about all things Mario. Anyone who would catch the Classic NES Ad errors is a nerd, for example.

No such thing as a nerd, geek, anything.

I am one of the more "popular" people in school (now.) Because I know a whole lot about Mario and games, dosen't make me a nerd. I am pretty "cool" at school, and I like to play games.

Does that make me a nerd?

NO!

I believe that anyone can like games and still have a high social status, liking whatever they want. It is mainly the way you present yourself. You can make yourself look like a "wierdo" by acting smart and omniscent at the wrong times. However, if brains (or anything, for that matter) are allpied at the right time, they can be a powerful ally.
Scenario time:

Sitting in the cafateria one time at lunch, my friends and I started discussing nonsense, like usual. I said, "I whipped out the NES the other night," and we began a long conversation about video games. Later we worked our way to N64, when we talked about Goldeneye. I brought up Mario 64, and they all aggreed that it ranks up there as a great game. By the time we got to the Cube, they had learned a lot about Mario from me. And many of them admitted that the cube is definately one of the better systems out there, and Nintendo has the best Game Series: Zelda, Mario, Metriod, Ect....

So, in conclusion, there is no such thing as a nerd, geek etc. It is how you present yourself. YOu can have the qualities of a "nerd" or "geek," but can stull be pretty "cool."

That is what I firmly believe.

I want bacon, but haven't been able to find the button.

I am a nerd, a geek, and cool.  I am not ashamed of any of the three.

Nerd, as a television social class, is a stereotype that I find extremely annoying.
We've seen that several of the nerds here play sports, many are "cool" (another teen TV clique), and I'm fairly confident that none here wear pocket protectors or have ducktape on their glasses.

My definition of nerd (or geek for that matter, they're interchangable to me)is any person knowing more, or being more interested, than most people about a subject that most people don't relly care about.
Example: "That guy plays Magic: The Gathering and can pronounce the names on the cards! He is such a nerd!"

I honestly can't say I'm a nerd, although being a nerd isn't a bad thing, I guess.  This message board is the only thing I do on the computer.  Otherwise I'm out doing more normal-- er, I mean, more social stuff.  I couldn't say normal, because I'm making a movie with two friends called "Ninja Action", where there's no plot and just a bunch of cool battle scenes, and that doesn't sound very normal.  I also hate long walks on the beach.  Why would someone go to the beach to walk?  Why not fly a kite, dig a hole, buind a sand castle or ride an ATV, dune buggy or dirt bike?  Whoops, I'm talking about myself too much, bye!

Actually you mixed that up. Geeks are the ones who lean more to artistic stuff and know a lot about one or two things. Nerds tend to lean to more factual things like Math/Science/S.S. Also, Nerds tend to be smarter than Geeks from what I've learned.

I used to be a bit of a geek, but now I'm more of a prep and hang around with the preps, so I'm popular now. However, I still have geek in me since I still value my unpopular friends, and I know a lot about everything. If people ask me what high-school stereotype class I am, I simply state I'm a Prep/Geek Hybrid.

Nope, sorry guys, but you are all nerds if you post here. I suppose you could act like other things (we all do) but you are by definition a nerd. Meowrik, you are a nerd who hangs out with preps. Markio, you are a nerd who stars in Ninja flicks. Nothing wrong with being a nerd though. In today's society, nearly everyone is a nerd. The basic technology knowledge, literacy rates, and general science awareness today is at supernerd levels compared to that of the past.

If everyone's a nerd, then the term is stupid.  Therefore, the term is stupid.  Whatever.  "Whatever" solves all of life's problems...

"Nerd" actually came from a Dr. Seuss book.
I'm trying to find out which one.

Sorry Lizard Dude. I'm a pretty Boy. I spend at least 7 minutes in the morning styling my hair and shop at the mall frequently.
