Newbie is a dumb word. It is a word that describes newer members that don't try to act more mature or make less topics. I don't really like the word "newbie" because it sounds very similar to "shoobie" from Rocket Power, which is one of the dumbest shows on Television. Here's a list of things that one can do or not do to make the older members stop complaining:
-Don't make a new topic for every little thing. If it can be contained in a post, then put it in another thread that is off-topic and random so it won't be out of place(you wouldn't want to put a thread about favorite Mario characters in a topic where you add to a story or something).
-Check the name of the Message Board's section. General Mario chat is for MARIO, Story Boards are for STORIES, Site Discussion is for problems or suggestions about the SITE, NOT FUNGI FORUMS, White Mushroom House is about BUYING & SELLING, General Chat is for ANYTHING ELSE. Latest News is the Latest news, of course.
-Make sure that a topic you still think should be its own thread(be VERY CAREFUL in deciding this), then check that it doesn't already exist. There have already been polls about favorite Mario characters and Name, Age and Country. There have been unnecessary threads where the purpose was to talk about anything at all instead of a certain topic, but most threads are like that anyway, so don't make them.
-Type well. I generally suck at typing but can see some errors if I read back over the post before I post it. If it's one or two not very important mistakes, people shouldn't care, but otherwise, it would be a good idea to EDIT THE POST. To edit a post, click the little pencil picture above your post and you can. No one wants to read, "you suck n im so kewl 1 741k liek 7h15!". Most people don't want to read, "i was wondring, how long have you been hear,it mattters so much?" and other versions that include uncapitalizations and no spaces and misspellings.
-Don't swear, cuss, or whatever people call it. I call it swearing. It's bad. Don't do it. Some words are okay I guess, like "sucks" and "moron" and stuff like that, but just don't use any of the big ones. I don't often use "crap", some people do, but VERY RARELY, which is the way it should be.
-Don't constantly complain about someone because you don't like them, because other people will think differently and more people won't like you. Sometimes it's best just to hold your tongue(typing hands, whatever) and just ignore them, or at least not to mind when they say mean things or stupid things.
-Keep opinions and facts separate. "The DS is the latest Nintendo hand console" is a fact. "I think the DS is kind of pointless" is an opinion. Don't claim that something officially sucks or that some unworthy site is a good source of information. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but make sure you give a reason for your opinion so it makes more sense. If "Gamecube sucks", say WHY you think it sucks.
That's most of the things I can think of now. Most people follow these rules, and to be a better member(NOT "NEWBIE"), you probably should too, unless one of my reasons was messed up or something.
