Here's the deal.  There's this auction on Super Mario 64 that ends tonight, and I really want it, after hearing so much good stuff about it.  I also hear the original one's the best.

But then, I think that maybe I should wait until my birthday and get Super Mario 64 DS and get all the new features.  I'm not sure what to do, so could someone help me out?  Please post soon, as the auction is coming to an end.

Hands down, 64 wins it all. Nothing beats the original.

Dont bother finding it online, its a pretty common game to find in game stores. 64 only has mario as a character, but it does have a different (and better) painting for Jolly Roger Bay. DS has Yoshi, Luigi, and Wario as playable characters, new levels, more stars, better challenges. If you are planning to get the DS anyway, go with Mario DS, if you just want to play the game without buying a DS, rent the original which is fairly commen.

Ugh, I lost the auction.  I'll just find 64 in a used game store, as everyone is ranting about how much better it is.  Besides, I'd rather get New Super Mario Bros. for my eventual DS.

The greatest difference is screen size and easiness of control.

I still can't get the hang of using the thumb stylus as a control stick.

I still can't get the hang of using a run button in SM64.

But I own the virtual analog stick.

I vote SM64DS.

Definitely 64. The DS version is too hard to control, because you have to use the D-pad or touch screen. An analog stick much more precise and easy to use. Also the action buttons are weird too. You have to use R to do long jumps and ground pounds instead of L. You also have to use A to attack. That is annoying, they should have made Y be the attack button. Also, the DS's 3D graphics are kind of blocky. The N64's are nice and smooth.

How soon our memory fails us. The graphics are the same.

I like both versions, but I found SM64DS easier to play.
