Accually Koopa is Japanese for Bowser But they still used it on the older games , then later changed it to Bowser. Why they changed it, I don't know why.

Maybe Mario Segali had a green dog named Bowser.

But then that would make Nintendo really lazy.

I can't answer your question, but these sort of continuity lapses were devastating to my childhood perception of the world.  I kid you not.

Bowser was always named Koopa in Japan. He was renamed Bowser for some reason for the American releases (Probably to prevent confusion between Koopa Troopas and King Koopa).

The DiC cartoon referred to him as King Koopa, though they sometimes referred to him as Bowser.

Kelso: Guys this is a game of Cat & Mouse between me & Hyde. I''m gonna make him admit he''s been going out with Jackie behind my back.
Fez: Guys, what happens in Cat & Mouse if the cat is retarded?
As a game that requires six friends, an HDTV, and skill, I can see why the majority of TMK is going to hate on it hard.

This is sort of like Dr. Robotnik getting changed to Eggman.

I like to think of Boswer as his first name and Koopa as his last name, with his title being King.  So his full title and name is King Bowser Koopa.

But in MSSB when you get enough stars in challenge mode for Bowser he gets the title Koopa King.
