Under the direction of series creator Masahiro Sakurai, Super Smash Bros. Brawl will feature classic, GameCube-style combat -- not Wii-style motion-controlled combat. That means players who prefer to play the game with the traditional control setup can do so using the GameCube control-style they're already accustomed to while the new motion control adds a new dimension previously not available in fighting games.

The game also features a range of new nasty toys, such as the ability to unleash a puppy from Nintendogs that will run up to the screen, put its paws up and obscure the view of the action. Mario, Kirby, Pikachu and Link have been confirmed as returning characters. Sakurai confirmed that Wario actually has a fart attack and that Solid Snake can use his trusty cardboard box. In the video trailer, Snake gets out of the box and says "It's showtime!"

Sakurai said the decision to include Solid Snake when Hideo Kojima himself practically "begged" to include the Metal Gear character in the last Smash Bros. game. When asked about the possibility of Sonic the Hedgehod appearing in the game as well, Shigeru Miyamoto said: "There are probably possibilities for other third parties as well, and it maybe that even know there are corporate discussions going on about including some of these other characters."

Even better, the game will be fully online playable in addition to featuring a robust multiplayer mode.

The bad news is that Super Smash Bros. Brawl will no longer be a Wii launch title, but will instead be released in 2007.

Wario with a fart attack?? Nintendo's been reading too many Fungi Forum Stories. But oh crap, he's wearing his Wario Ware gear. I want just Wario... maybe his normal clothes will be an alternate outfit for him? I gotta say... the graphics are TOO good. Mario's overalls seem a bit overdone. Oh well, the game will be epic. Rating?

Totally awesome. While I'm against the inclusion of third party characters in a SSB title, the game looks so great I can overlook Solid Snake. Hopefully most of the people from Melee are included along with any newcomers *crosses fingers for Captain Olimar*
As a game that requires six friends, an HDTV, and skill, I can see why the majority of TMK is going to hate on it hard.

Wonder why the music was so good?

The main theme was created for us by none other than famed Final Fantasy composer, Nobuo Uematsu!

Additionally, opera singer Ken Nishikiori has also participated in this project on vocals.

...And as a special service to readers of this site, I can say that the game's music will be performed by a full orchestra.

It will be a deluxe chorus complete with lyrics in Latin.

It's of a slightly different disposition than previous Smash Bros. games, wouldn't you say?

I also want to change the atmosphere of the game itself a little, too. But you'll just have to look forward to how I'll be doing that.

Uematsu. Yeah.

Now we know what Sakurai meant when he said he was thinking "outside the box".

Nobuo Uematsu? Could this mean an appearance from an N-Gen Final Fantasy character? Let's just hope he's behind the Brawl music, and that this wasn't just something he whipped up for the trailer.

It's possible, but certainly not because of Uematsu. As you can recall, Uematsu went freelance, and left Square-Enix within the last year or so. Though I personally don't care to see any Final Fantasy characters, it's a possibility.

Yeah, I thought of that after I posted. Let's just hope he's onboard for the rest of Brawl's soundtrack.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Michael Jones as a playable character, with his trusty island yo-yo, his devastating supernova and his unpredictable astericks.
