Cameo appearances and references

The "Enter the Cheatrix" episode contains many references to other video games, including Mario and Donkey Kong. In fact, your objective in "Enter the Cheatrix" is to save Professor Frink from a giant ape.

In the episode's opening cutscene, Bart and Lisa teleport from Professor Frink's house to a "game engine" -- a factory where video games are made. They materialize in front of a large green pipe, similar to the ones seen in many Mario games. As they take a look around, the camera zooms in on a Mario lookalike working on a high platform. Later on, the "Stubborn Ape" grabs Frink and swings away, ending the cutscene. The cutscene is present in all versions of The Simpsons Game (Wii, DS, PS2, PS3, PSP, and Xbox 360).

Inside the level, Bart and Lisa use giant green pipes to travel from one section to another. In the PSP, PS2, and Wii versions, a sound effect similar to the Mario pipe sound effect plays when they travel through the pipes.

You can see Mario and a Koopa Troopa (and Sonic) slaving away behind windows at the beginning of the level in the Wii, Xbox 360, PS2, and PS3 versions. Mario will usually say something when you're near him. It is not yet known if all of the following voice clips are present in all versions of the game:

  • "I have not seen my native-a land in-a so long." (Confirmed in Wii version)
  • "I'm-a the best! I'm-a... not the best." (Confirmed in Wii and PS2 versions)
  • "I have not seen a mushroom in-a so long." (Confirmed in PS3 version)

The boss battle pits Lisa against the Stubborn Ape, who stands in front of a wall of barrels on a raised platform. While dodging barrels thrown by the Stubborn Ape, you must use Lisa's special ability to knock him off the platform and into the green sludge below.

After Professor Frink is rescued, the closing cutscene plays, which is also seen in all versions of The Simpsons Game. It turns out that Frink doesn't want to go back home because he has fallen in love... with a Koopa Troopa!
