Mario puts his hammer skills to use in Wrecking Crew, one of the 17 games that launched with the NES.

You clear stages and earn points by breaking down all the gray walls and ladders on the screen. Other objects, such as bombs, doors, and barrels, help you avoid Gotcha Wrenches, Eggplant Men, and Foreman Spike. Wrecking Crew also features a level editor, but unfortunately there is no battery backup to save your custom levels.

It's interesting to note that while the NES game has Foreman Spike attacking you and generally causing mayhem in each level, the arcade Vs. Wrecking Crew has Luigi in that role. It seems probable that Foreman Spike was created in order to simulate the arcade game's two-player versus mode.
