Author Topic: Name Toad's Twins!  (Read 21861 times)

« on: January 14, 2009, 05:33:14 PM »
For those that do not know, we had our first ultrasound yesterday (Tuesday, January 13). We discovered we were having twins! A boy and a girl.

Up until now, though we've had one girl's name that we like (Madeline) and one boy's name that we.. agreed upon (Benjamin), but now we're kind of stuck. With one of each on the way, we're at a loss: we've only agreed on those two names and had no middle/alternate names done.

That's where you guys can help. We would love some name ideas. May 21 is her due date, but they will likely join us earlier because that's what twins do. They are not identical twins, sadly (or happily, depending on how you look at things..)

So, throw some names at me! :D

Kid 1 and Kid 2.

lol but srsly, I think those are great names (Madeline and Benjamin, I mean). Maybe I'll come back later with some actual names once I've had a few Full Throttles.

Actually, Full Throttle would be an awesome name.

Before I can make any suggestions, I need the first letter of your last name to know what starting letters to avoid.

« Reply #3 on: January 14, 2009, 05:45:03 PM »
Oh yeah! Her last name starts with B, and my last name (yes she has taken on my last name) is an R.

As long as name suggestions don't spell anything dirty, it's ok.

Also, we're currently reffereing to them as Thing 1 and Thing 2, and Munchkins. After birth, they are going to come to know exactly what those things are so they will get the joke or jokes.

Big Mouth and Kootie Pie.

If that's not doing it for you, then I'll go with Abigail Alynthia and Jordan Cornelius.

If you like cool acronyms, change Alynthia to Isadora and Cornelius to Aaron.

(If you pick any of our suggestions, post pictures of the birth certificates to win an internet)

Here's a list of baby names that I recommend NOT using, for they are really tacky:

  • Names typically reserved for pets (e.g Star, Duke, Queen, Sunflower)
  • Names of places (some celebrity named his kid LONDON, for it was where the kid was conceived, which is as low brow as ever)
  • Names that are obviously derived from pop culture figures
  • Names that are spelled in "original" ways (Bharbara, Khym)
  • Names with spaces or hyphens (maybe not tacky, but it's still annoying)
  • Names that are puns or intentionally confuse. (e.g. Tuesday Knight)

I never really liked the whole "last name as a first name" deal, unless the last name actually is commonly a (variant of a) first name. Middle name, okay, maybe.

I suggest you name them Daniel and Julia.
After Deezer and me? ;)

Maybe this topic will give you some ideas, Toad.
Here are some naming tips of mine.
There are lots of baby names and definitions sites you can easily find online, if you haven't already.

If you use Madeline, I wouldn't give her a middle name starting with an N-sound (the last sound in Madeline) or the letter M (alliteration). Probably something with one syllable – maybe two – would be good. Some suggestions: Ava, Grace, Paige, Rose. Claire, which you mentioned, could also work.

As for Benjamin, similar deal: no starting with N-sound or letter B. I think it could work with 1-2, maybe 3 syllables, depending on the name. jmdblazer's suggestion (Robert) isn't bad. I can't really think of anything else off the top of my head that works, I like, and wouldn't make the name "overly biblical" or something.

Congrats, by the way, Toad!

...In all seriousness, I suggest taking the easy way out and naming the boy after yourself, Toad. That's what plan to do. You could also name him after your father or one of your brothers if you have any. As for the girl, I'd let your wife decide on that.

I like alliteration. Nicky and I haven't really discussed it much..

For the girl, we are really leaning toward the name Sophie Isabella. Nicky wanted to originally name a girl Isabell, but there was something about a recent book series with the main character named that. I kinda like the name Sophie (which Nicky also picked), so we just threw the two names together.

As for the boy, I want to use the name Max, but so far the only decent thing we could think of has been Jonathon Maxwell, which all agree is far too long a name for a small child. I just put that name together one day when trying to think of names, and Nicky liked it (surprise!) She hadn't liked many of my suggestions thus far (no Claire Annette or Amanda Lynn, darn it).
