I think someone was abbreviating newbie as newb, and then that got 1337ified into n00b, which degraded over time into a derogatory term.

The '90s had at least TWO nines in the date at any given time. Take that, 1800s!

Another reason the '90s rocked: I was born in '92. That alone makes 1992 the best year ever ever ever.
