Super Mario crossover events

So far, there have been three Super Mario crossover events: One for the Super Mario Bros. 35th anniversary, and two to celebrate "Mario Day" (March 10). Click the links below to jump to those sections for more information.

Alfonso

Alfonso's default outfit is the "Mario's tee" shirt. Also, his catchphrase is "it'sa me" (without a hyphen), which is a reference to Mario's well-known greeting, "It's-a me, Mario!"

Louie

Louie's default outfit is the "Mario's tee" shirt. His special crafting request is the "iron frame" (a group of three red construction girders); combined with the fact that Louie is a gorilla, this appears to be a reference to the Donkey Kong arcade game.

In previous Animal Crossing games, Louie's default outfit was the "li'l bro's shirt" (a.k.a. "Luigi's tee").

Gulliver

If you give Gulliver a furniture or clothing item for trade, he might say, "By ol' Bobbery's bootstrap! You're giving this item to me?! It's so...superlative!" (Bobbery is a Bob-omb sailor that joins Mario's party in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.) He'll say this line every time you give him an item with a "Great!" rating, and the line is one of two possible responses when you give him an item with a "Good!" rating.

(Note: This dialog was removed for Version 2.3.0. To speed up the trading process, the game no longer cuts back to Gulliver for his reaction to each item.)

• 1-Up Mushroom
  Plays the "1-Up" sound effect when activated. It was available to craft for a limited time during the 2018 Super Mario crossover event and it was also a Fishing Tourney reward during the 2019 Super Mario crossover event.
• 8-bit fortress
  The end-of-level fortress from Super Mario Bros. was available as a Fishing Tourney reward during the 2019 Super Mario crossover event.
• 8-bit Goal Pole
  Your animal visitors can climb and slide down the pole, which will pull down the flag and play the classic "goal pole slide" sound effect. It was available as a Fishing Tourney reward during the 2019 Super Mario crossover event.
• Block
  A Brick Block that plays the "block bump" sound effect when activated. It was available to craft for a limited time during the 2018 Super Mario crossover event and it was also a Fishing Tourney reward during the 2019 Super Mario crossover event.
• Blooper balloon
  It was available as a Fishing Tourney reward during the 2019 Super Mario crossover event.
• Cheep Cheep balloon

• Fire Flower
  Plays the classic "shoot a fireball" sound effect when activated. It was available to craft for a limited time during the 2018 Super Mario crossover event and it was also a Fishing Tourney reward during the 2019 Super Mario crossover event.
• floating Block
  A floating Brick Block that your animal visitors can jump and hit from below, Mario-style. Plays the "block bump" sound effect when hit. It was available to craft for a limited time during the 2018 Super Mario crossover event and it was also a Fishing Tourney reward during the 2019 Super Mario crossover event.
• game-exhibit monitor
  When activated, the monitor cycles through four images inspired by Nintendo Switch games, with the original characters replaced with Animal Crossing characters. One of the images features Isabelle throwing Cappy, which is based on Super Mario Odyssey's box art. You had a five percent chance of getting this item from "Hopkin's game cookie," a fortune cookie that was available for a limited time.
• Goal Pole
  A Goal Pole with a black-and-white Bowser flag. Activate it to lower the flag to the bottom or raise it to the top. It was available to craft for a limited time during the 2018 Super Mario crossover event.
• Green Shell
  Plays the "shell kick" sound effect when activated. It was available to craft for a limited time during the 2018 Super Mario crossover event and it was also a Fishing Tourney reward during the 2019 Super Mario crossover event.
• Mario rug
  A rug patterned with the brown ground blocks from Super Mario Bros. It was available to craft for a limited time during the 2018 Super Mario crossover event.
• Mario's hat cushion
  Free gift during the Super Mario 35th Anniversary event. Available from March 2, 2021 at 12:00 a.m. to March 24, 2021 at 12:59 a.m. (CT).
• pinball machine
  A pinball machine with Super Mario Bros. artwork. You can craft it after raising your Friendship Level with Fuchsia to level 15.

• Pipe
  A green pipe that has a Piranha Plant living inside of it. It was available to craft for a limited time during the 2018 Super Mario crossover event and it was also a Fishing Tourney reward during the 2019 Super Mario crossover event.
• Red Shell
  Plays the "shell kick" sound effect when activated. It was available as a Fishing Tourney reward during the 2019 Super Mario crossover event.
• sideways Pipe
  It was available to craft for a limited time during the 2018 Super Mario crossover event and it was also a Fishing Tourney reward during the 2019 Super Mario crossover event.
• Super Mushroom
  Plays the "power-up" sound effect when activated. It was available to craft for a limited time during the 2018 Super Mario crossover event and it was also a Fishing Tourney reward during the 2019 Super Mario crossover event.

Super Mario crossover event (2019)

This was the second Mario crossover event to celebrate "Mario Day." It ran from March 10, 2019 at 12:00 a.m. to April 9, 2019 at 12:59 a.m. During this event, you could craft special wallpaper or flooring for your cabin or camper, and participate in the Mario-themed fishing tournament.

Fishing Tourney #12

Ran from March 14, 2019 at 1:00 a.m. to March 21, 2019 at 12:59 a.m. Like previous tournaments, you could catch special tourney fish and give them to Chip to earn total-size rewards.

Every three hours, there were six to nine tourney fish available to catch in Saltwater Shores. There were also tourney throw nets that you could use to catch multiple tourney fish at any time during the tourney.

Super Mario crossover event (2018)

The first Super Mario crossover event ran from March 10, 2018 at 12 a.m. through April 10, 2018 at 12:59 a.m.

During the event, you could get mushrooms from fulfilling requests or visiting Shovelstrike Quarry, then use those mushrooms to craft special clothing and furniture. Each of the three types of mushrooms were introduced at the start of each round: Super Mushroom (round 1), 1-Up Mushroom (round 2), and Mega Mushroom (round 3). It should be noted that the Mega Mushroom here does not resemble the Mega Mushroom that first appeared in New Super Mario Bros., but instead is a smoothed-out version of the Mushroom power-up from Super Mario Bros.
