Buckner & Garcia - Pac-Man Fever

Overview

In the early 80's, arcade games were all the rage. Songwriters Jerry Buckner and Gary Garcia saw a chance to cash in on this phenomenon, and quickly hammered out a single entitled "Pac-Man Fever." As the songwriting duo predicted, it became a hit shortly after its radio debut. Following the success of the single, Buckner & Garcia put together an album of eight songs, with the fourth track being "Do the Donkey Kong." This song describes a chaotic Donkey Kong gameplay experience as, well, doing "the Donkey Kong." Note: Buckner and Garcia did not write the "Do the Mario" ditty that was played at the end of the Super Mario Bros. Super Show cartoon.

Lyrics

Do the Donkey Kong by Buckner & Garcia

Wave your hands in the air
Stomp your feet on the ground
Climb up the ladder quickly
And then spin yourself around
Open the umbrella up and answer the phone
You can do it with a partner
You can do it all alone
Scale up the wall
Just how high you can go?
You shouldn't break her heart
If you get to her too slow
Pound upon your chest and
Take an elevator ride
You can get off at the top
And then you look from side to side

Come on, come on
Come on, come on
Do the Donkey Kong (do the Donkey Kong)
Come on, come on
Come on, come on
Do the Donkey Kong
Do the Donkey Kong

Tiptoe through the tulips
And then raise your hands up high
There's a fire down below
And you don't want to catch his eye
Hide behind each other
And don't even make a sound
You're in trouble now
Take the elevator down
Jump over all the barrels
And let out a little scream
Jump underneath the pies
'Cause those are coconut cream
You pick the hammer up and
Then you put the fire out
Now we think you know what
Donkey Kong is all about

Come on, come on (come on!)
Come on, come on (come on!)
Do the Donkey Kong (come on and do the Donkey Kong)
Come on, come on (come on!)
Come on, come on (come on!)
Do the Donkey Kong (do the Donkey Kong)
Do the Donkey Kong

Come on, come on (come on!)
Come on, come on (come on!)
Do the Donkey Kong (d-d-d-do the Donkey Kong)
Come on, come on (come on!)
Come on, come on (come on!)
Do the Donkey Kong (come on and do the Donkey Kong)
Do the Donkey Kong

Come on, come on (come on!)
Come on, come on (come on!)
Do the Donkey Kong (and you can do the Donkey Kong)
Come on, come on (come on!)
Come on, come on (come on!)
Do the Donkey Kong (and you can do the Donkey Kong)
Do the Donkey Kong

Come on, come on (come on!)
Come on, come on (come on!)
Do the Donkey Kong (and you can do the Donkey Kong)
Come on, come on (come on!)
Come on, come on (come on!)
Do the Donkey Kong (do the Donkey Donkey Kong)
Do the Donkey Kong

Come on, come on (come on!)
Come on, come on (come on!)
Do the Donkey Kong (come on and do the Donkey Kong)
Come on, come on (come on!)
Come on, come on (come on!)
Do the Donkey Kong (come on and do the Donkey Kong)
Do the Donkey Kong

Come on, come on (come on!)
Come on, come on (come on!)
Do the Donkey Kong (and do the Donkey Kong)
Come on, come on (come on!)
Come on, come on (come on!)
Do the Donkey Kong (come on and do the Donkey Kong)
Do the Donkey Kong
