Overview

The first of a five-CD series, this album contains 16 orchestrated video game songs played live by the Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra. Tracks 5 and 6 are the only Mario-related songs, but they are both excellent. The SMB "medley" is just that—a medley of songs from the classic Super Mario Bros. NES game. The track opens with the famous main theme, then "dives" into the waltzy water theme. After a short rendition of the underground tune, the orchestra returns to the SMB main theme before duly ending with the SMB "lost a life" ditty. Track 6 is a wonderful version of Super Mario World's main theme, the song that you'd recognize instantly if you've ever played SMW.
