What basis or justification is there for an Asteroids movie?

Heck the game wasn't even that good. If they wanna make a video-game-based movie set in space, Metroid deserves it more.

When has game quality ever had anything to do with the quality of a movie based on it? If anything, there's an inverse relationship.

Lizard Dude, remember what games Turtlekid does like. He probably can't handle something as awesome or as difficult as an arcade shoot-'em-up.

He probably doesn't like Raiden Fighters either.

You play as a little space ship that rotates around and shoots rocks. Other than the nostalgic factor, there's not much there to make it good.
