Nintendo of America has revealed title changes and new release dates for the rest of 2005. Mario Tennis: Power Tour (GBA) and Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time (NDS), two formerly subtitle-less games, finally shed their "tentative-title" status.

NOA's list also confirms a US release of Dr. Mario + Puzzle League. This GBA game, known as Dr. Mario & Panel de Pon in Japan, is scheduled for a Japan release on 9/13 as part of Nintendo's "Happy! Mario 20th" campaign celebrating Super Mario Bros.'s 20th anniversary.

Gamefront.de reports that Capcom is working on a Donkey Kong Jungle Fever arcade game. We'll have more info after Capcom displays the arcade machine later this month in Japan.

WarioWare: Twisted! ships to stores across North America today. Twisted, the fourth in the WarioWare series and the second for Game Boy Advance, has an MSRP of $34.99.

Nintendo officially announced new Nintendo DS and GameCube Mario titles during their pre-E3 press conference earlier today. (Click the game titles for screen shots.)

  • Mario Party 7 - More than 80 new mini-games, some supporting 8 players
  • Super Mario Strikers - A soccer game with Mario twists à la Mario Golf and Mario Tennis

Nintendo President Satoru Iwata mentioned their goal of a Super Smash Bros. online game ready for the launch of the Nintendo Revolution, Nintendo's next console.

Nintendo also showed footage of Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix (GC), Mario Kart DS (NDS), Mario Tennis Advance (GBA), New Super Mario Bros. (NDS), and Yoshi Topsy-Turvy (GBA). Stay tuned for more info and screen shots!

In Japan, thirsty Mario fans can collect Mario-themed bottle caps and tape on specially marked Pepsi bottles and cans. In March, 500ml cans of Pepsi Twist have one of 30 Mario-themed bottle caps, 15 available on Pepsi Twist and the other 15 on Diet Pepsi Twist. And starting in April, 1.5 liter bottles of Pepsi and Pepsi Twist will have one of eight different rolls of tape that feature Mario characters and levels from Super Mario Bros.

Yoshi Touch & Go walks onto store shelves across North America today. Yoshi's first adventure on the Nintendo DS has a MSRP of $34.99.

Yesterday, the Walk of Game, video game's version of Hollywood's Walk of Fame, honored its first inductees. Shigeru Miyamoto (creator of Donkey Kong and Mario) and Nolan Bushnell (co-founder of Atari) earned lifetime achievement awards, while Mario, Link, and Sonic the Hedgehog also earned stainless steel stars in the Metreon in San Francisco. Bungie's first-person shooter Halo was also inducted.

In Sunday's episode of Robot Chicken on Cartoon Network, one scene had Mario, Luigi, and Wario driving karts in a race during a parody of The Fast and the Furious.

Just a heads-up on a couple of Nintendo DS games with Mario references that I think have a very slim chance of making it to North America. Yakuman DS, a Mah-Jongg game with Mario characters as avatars, is scheduled for a March 31st release in Japan. An unknown amount of music from Super Mario Bros., as well as other NES/Famicom songs, will appear in Electroplankton. To hear the Starman theme on its website, click the first circle in the menu, then wait for #09. Also, in the third circle, the next-to-last person plays the part with the Starman theme. Electroplankton has a Japanese release date set for April 7th.

Nintendo of America and Nintendo of Europe have announced release dates for the second quarter of 2005, which include five different Mario games.

North America

  • Donkey Konga 2 (GC) - May 6th

Europe

  • Yoshi's Universal Gravitation (GBA) - April 22nd
  • Yoshi's Touch & Go (NDS) - May 6th
  • Donkey Konga 2 (GC) - June 3rd
  • WarioWare: Twisted (GBA) - June 3rd
  • Mario Party Advance (GBA) - June 24th

NOE also pointed out the tentative title of "Donkey Konga 2: Hit Song Parade," the subtitle coming from the Japanese version.

Namco revealed Mario Kart Arcade GP today at the AOU Amusement Expo 2005 in Japan. Gpara.com reports that the game will use a rewritable card for saving information from six worlds of 24 total courses. GAME Watch has a picture of the cabinet and what looks like a playable Pac-Man character! Hopefully, unanswered questions like "Will the game reach North America?" and "How can they call it Mario Kart if Pac-Man is included?" won't remain unanswered for long. Mario Kart Arcade GP is currently scheduled for a Fall 2005 release in Japan.

WarioWare: Touched! finally touches store shelves across North America today. Touched is the third installment of the WarioWare series and the first for the Nintendo DS.

Mario made his second cameo appearance in The Simpsons during last night's special Super Bowl episode. For those of you who missed the scene where Homer defeated Mario Donkey Kong-style, we will have a video clip available soon.

Today, Nintendo of Europe announced Nintendo DS launch details for the UK. The DS will finally hit Europe on March 11 of this year, with Super Mario 64 DS and WarioWare: Touched! as two of its 15 launch titles.

Nintendo and Konami join forces to bring us Dance Dance Revolution with Mario for the GameCube, slated for a 2005 release in Japan. It will probably come bundled with a dance mat similar to the DDR arcade games' dance platform.

Yesterday, Nintendo confirmed that Mario, Luigi, and Peach will appear in the GameCube version of NBA Street V3, developed by EA. NBAStreetV3.com has screen shots and a must-see video of Peach and the Mario brothers performing acrobatic slam dunks.
